Author Guidelines
Manuscript submission deadlines: November 1 (number 1) and May 15 (number 2).
Studies that do not conform to the publication standards will not be considered for evaluation purposes.
1. Length of manuscripts
1.1 Editorial:
The editorial will open each number and its length shall range between 4,000 and 8,000 characters with spaces.
1.2. Studies:
The minimum recommended length for Studies is 55,000 characters with spaces. The maximum recommended length, including footnotes, is 100,000 characters with spaces.
1.3. Forum and practice:
The contributions to these sections may range between 13,000 and 20,000 characters with spaces, including footnotes. They shall include a summary and 3 to 5 keywords (and its translation into Spanish/English). No abstract shall be included.
1.4. Books' review:
The publication of book reviews in the journal requires prior approval by the Editorial Board. To this end, the author(s) of the work, or the director/editor if applicable, must request the review by sending an email to REDI (redi@revista-redi.es) with the subject "REQUEST FOR BOOK REVIEW", including the details of the work (title, year, publisher).
Regarding the length of the review, it is recommended to range between 6,000 and 20,000 characters (including spaces). The book details and reviewer identification data are excluded from the character count. No footnotes will be included; if necessary, references should be indicated in the text within parentheses.
2. Layout
2.1.Page format shall have standard margins: 2.5 cm top and bottom, and 3.0 cm left and right margins 3.0 cm. Pages shall be numbered at the bottom right of pages.
2.2. The main text shall be justified and indented 1.5 cm at the beginning of each paragraph. There shall be no additional spacing between paragraphs or sections.
2.3. The font of the main text shall be Times New Roman 12 with 1.5 line spacing. Footnote calls shall be inserted before punctuation, and the font of footnote text shall be Times New Roman 10 with single space.
2.4. Insertions and transcripts, when used, shall be in font Times New Roman 10 and indented 1.5 cm from the entire paragraph. Example:
“En ausencia de elección del Derecho aplicable por las partes, el contrato se regirá por los Principios UNIDROIT sobre los contratos comerciales internacionales. En cualquier caso, también podrá indicarse…”.
2.5. Quotations shall use double typographic quotes (“ ”).
3. Structure
3.1.The title of the manuscript in English and Spanish shall be in capital letters and Times New Roman 16. The original title of the manuscript shall be centered and in bold letters. The title of the translated title (in English or Spanish) shall be centered and in italics. Example:

The author's name shall be followed by a footnote call with an asterisk (*). It shall appear before the first footnote with numbers, and it shall indicate his/her academic status, affiliation and e-mail address. If the author wishes to link the work to a research project, he/she shall do so in the same footnote. Example:

At the end of this same footnote, please indicate the date of the last visit to all the websites mentioned in the study. Example:

3.3. Abstract / resumen: The manuscript shall include, after the author’s name, an abstract in English with a maximum of 200 words and a resumen in Spanish with a maximum of 200 words. It will be followed by a maximum of 10 keywords and 10 palabras clave, in font Times New Roman 12, and single-spaced.
3.4. The table of contents shall be in Times New Roman 12 font. It should include all sections and subsections. Example:

3.5.Headings and subheadings shall be aligned to the left with the following format:

Bold type and underlining should not be used within the texts. If something is to be highlighted, only italics should be used.
Links to websites shall be in italics. For example: http://www.aepdiri.org/
3.7. Abbreviations and acronyms
The manuscript shall use in English the abbreviations “art.”; “par.” and “paras.”; “p.” and “pp.”; “no.” or “nos.”; “apt.”; “see”.
When using acronyms or abbreviations, the complete name or term shall be used the first time that it is used in the text, followed by the acronym or abbreviation in brackets. Example: ...as interpreted by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in its Advisory Opinion of 22 July 2010.
4. Citations and references
4.1. Citations in the main text
The citation of authors in the main text shall include the name’s initial and the surname with diacritical capital letter. Example: The comments of R. Alonso García to the article cited above...
4.2. Citations in footnotes
- Books: surnames in capital letters, initial of the name in capital letters, title of the work (in italics), number of the edition (from the second onwards), publisher, place, year and pages; all separated by commas. Example: ANDRES SAÉNZ DE SANTA MARÍA, Paz, Sistema de Derecho Internacional Público, 6th ed., Civitas, Navarra, 2020, pp. 19-35.
- Journal articles: surname in capital letters, initial of the name in capital letters, title of the article (in quotation marks), journal (in italics), volume (vol.), year, number (No.) and pages; all separated by commas. Example: PONS RAFOLS, Xavier, “La guerra de Ucrania, las Naciones Unidas y el Derecho Internacional: algunas certezas sistémicas insostenibles” REEI, vol. 43, 2022, pp. 1-33.
If a single page is to be mentioned or highlighted, only that page will be cited. Example: PONS RAFOLS, Xavier, “La guerra de Ucrania, las Naciones Unidas y el Derecho Internacional: algunas certezas sistémicas insostenibles”, REEI, vol. 43, 2022, p. 24.
- Contributions in collective works: surname in capital letters, initial of the name in capital letters, title of the contribution (in quotation marks), followed by surname in capital letters and initial of the name of coordinators/directors/editors (in brackets), title of the work (in italics), book/volume, edition (from the second onwards), publisher, place, year, pages; all separated by commas. Caution: when a work (book, article or contribution to a collective work) is cited again, op. cit. (in italics) shall be used, followed by a specific page or pages. If two or more works by the same author have been cited, the new citation shall refer clearly to which of them. If it is the same work cited in the previous note, ibidem (in italics) shall be used. Example: ANDRES SAÉNZ DE SANTA MARÍA, Paz, op. cit., p. 28.

4.4. Jurisprudence
4.4.1. Jurisprudence of supra-state or international bodies
The official format used by the body in question shall be used (if it exists). The citation of case law of the International Court of Justice or the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea shall follow the official citation format in English or French. Examples:
- Military and Paramilitary Activities in and Against Nicaragua (Nicaragua v United States), 1986, ICJ Rep 14
- Reservations to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, Advisory Opinion, 1951, ICJ Rep 15 at 21.
The citation of case law of the Court of Justice of the EU shall use the format provided by the CJEU itself (European Case-Law Identifier: http://curia.europa.eu/jcms/jcms/P_126035/). Example: Judgment of 12 July 2005, Schempp, C-403/03, ECLI:EU:C:2005:446, paragraph 19.
In the case of the European Court of Human Rights, a citation format inspired by the official citation shall be used:
- For a Grand Chamber judgment: Fernandez Martinez v. Spain (GS), no. 56030/07, para. 67, ECHR 2014.
- For a Chamber judgment: De la Flor Cabrera v. Spain, no. 10764/09. Spain, no. 10764/09, paras. 7-10, ECHR 2014.

- For decisions of other international tribunals (permanent or arbitral), a citation format shall be used with the name of the case (including, where appropriate, the name of the States parties, separated by “v.” and in brackets), followed by the case number, the date of the decision or award, and the paragraph:

4.4.2. Jurisprudence of state organs
For the case law of Spanish bodies, the following guidelines will be followed:

The rest of the internal decisions shall follow a format inspired by the previous ones. For the jurisprudence of foreign bodies, all references shall be harmonized so that they follow a pattern as similar as possible.
5. Submission of manuscripts
5.1. Deadlines
Manuscripts must be submitted by the following deadlines:
- 1 November for the first issue of the following year.
- 15 May for the second issue of the current year.
5.2. Versions of the Manuscript
In order to safeguard the integrity of the double-blind peer review process, authors are required to submit two versions of their manuscript, namely a complete version; and an anonymous version from which the author’s name and any other identifying information have been removed.
In Microsoft Office documents, all author-identifying information must also be removed from the file properties. In PDF files, authors must ensure that their names and any other identifying data are deleted from the document properties accessible through the “File” menu in Adobe Acrobat.
6. Gender Equality Policy
REDI is committed to the promotion of gender equality and reflects this commitment through the following practices.
6.1. Editorial Participation
REDI aims to ensure balanced gender representation in its editorial bodies and among peer reviewers, with the objective that women constitute at least 50% of such participants.
6.2. Use of Inclusive Language
6.3. Gender Equality in Research
REDI will give particular consideration to submissions whose content, objectives, or methodology contribute to the critical analysis of gender relations and the promotion of gender equality, without prejudice to the application of standard academic quality criteria.
