Abstract

On 19 June 2023, the Agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction was adopted at the United Nations. After almost twenty years of negotiations, a consensus has been reached on a text governing a big portion of the oceans, the world's largest reservoir of biodiversity. The aim of this paper is to carry out an analysis of the text adopted in the light of the negotiations and the interests, not always convergent, of the international community.
